Common health risks for a tiny teacup yorky

Posted on 27 March 2009 by admin

Tiny teacup yorkys often have many health problems. In fact, breeding yorkys for pure small size is cruel. Just the phrase tiny teacup yorky is not harmful. Unfortunately the tinier the dog, the unhealthier the pet. Yorky dog size and yorky health risks are negatively correlated.

If you care about yorky dogs, please do not encourage this practice. Yorky dogs are very cute within their normal breed standard weight, 3 to 7 pounds. Puppy yorky dogs that in adulthood reach this range of size are very, very tiny indeed. Enjoy their puppyhood, but enjoy your adult yorky as well! Yorky dogs are great companions, and loving dogs.

Common health risks of teacup yorkies that do not reach 3 pounds in adulthood:

- Poor bone health. Fragile bones, easily broken. Smaller dogs are easier to miss and get lost underfoot.

-More difficulty in housetraining the smaller yorky.

-Yorkys under 3 pounds in adulthood have more problems with tooth decay.

-Extra small yorkys may develop diabetes and severe hypoglycemia, leading to death often before owner discovery.

-Birth defects.

-Kidney problems, abnormal heart development, faulty digestive symptoms leading to vomiting and diarrhea.
